Status: ROLLING | Verification: VERIFIED | Last verified: 30 September 2026.
The Pulitzer Center’s Global Reporting Grants support ambitious, in-depth journalism on important issues that receive insufficient media attention.
Deadline: Rolling; no fixed deadline for reporting-grant applications.
Geography: journalists from all countries and territories may apply.
Applicant type: staff and freelance journalists.
What the grant supports
The program supports reporting costs for strong public-interest journalism. There is no restriction on topic or reporting location under the general Global Reporting Grant.
Important application consideration
The Pulitzer Center expects applicants to have, or ultimately secure, an outlet interested in publishing or airing the work. For high-risk reporting, particularly conflict-zone assignments, safety planning and outlet responsibility are important parts of the review.
Official source
Review the official Global Reporting Grants page. The Pulitzer Center’s reporting-grant FAQ confirms that applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Should you apply?
Best fit for: staff or freelance journalists with a strong underreported public-interest story, a realistic reporting plan and a credible path to publication or broadcast.
Probably not a fit if: the idea is still only a broad topic, there is no clear reporting question, or the applicant has no plan for editorial placement, access or safety where risk is involved.
Africads application tips: make the public-interest value specific; show why the reporting is timely and undercovered; and build the budget around actual reporting needs rather than a generic project total.
Before you pitch the story: Make sure the reporting budget is realistic and defensible
Use the Africads Grant Budget Sanity Checker to catch unexplained reporting costs, weak assumptions and expenses that do not clearly support the reporting plan.
