Status: ROLLING | Verification: VERIFIED | Last verified: 30 September 2026.

The Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation (DRK) accepts applications year-round from early-stage, impact-first organizations with scalable solutions for underserved communities.

Funding: up to USD 300,000 in unrestricted grant funding or investment capital over three years.
Deadline: Rolling / year-round.
Support: capital plus intensive organizational and scaling support.

Who is a strong fit?

DRK is designed for early-stage social enterprises and nonprofit ventures with a compelling model, strong leadership and a credible path to significant scale. It is not a conventional short-term project grant.

Application process

The application is open year-round and asks applicants to explain their mission, model, impact and scaling potential. DRK also invites an executive summary, pitch deck or business plan, while additional financial or impact materials are optional at the initial stage.

Apply through the official DRK application page and review DRK’s funding criteria.

Practical applicant note

Focus on the strength of the operating model, leadership team, impact evidence and path to scale rather than presenting DRK as a normal restricted-project donor.

Should you pursue DRK?

Best fit for: early-stage nonprofit or social-enterprise leaders with a strong operating model, early evidence of impact and a credible path to significant scale.

Probably not a fit if: you are seeking a conventional restricted project grant, have no clear scale thesis, or the organization is not yet ready for intensive multi-year growth support.

Africads application tips: lead with the model rather than the need statement; show what evidence already suggests the approach works; and explain how leadership, systems and capital will combine to reach far more people.

Before you pursue multi-year capital: Check whether your organisation can absorb the growth and reporting load

Use the Africads Award Absorption Capacity Check to test whether finance, staffing, leadership, reporting and delivery systems are ready for multi-year capital and intensive scaling support.
